Industrial Revolution II

670 Richmond St W

Industrial Revolution II at 670 Richmond St W was originally constructed in 1950 for Decca Records, and was later used as a garment factory. This was phase two of Bob Mitchell's Toronto lofts conversion project on Richmond St, and was completed in 1997. This building has only 12 residential suites that are each either two or three-storeys high. For the conversion, Mitchell enlarged the existing window openings, and the brick reclaimed from these windows was used to build up the roofline parapet to conceal the private rooftop gardens. This project sold out before it was built simply on the basis of word-of-mouth referrals. It remains a sought-after loft conversion project by resale buyers.
